Whether you travel every day or once a year, being an efficient corporate traveler is a must! Here are a few tips that many business traveler don’t know about or don’t take advantage of from the D.C. corporate travel experts at WorldTravelService®.
Premium Economy Seating
An exhausted traveler makes for an exhausted worker, and no one has time for that. If you are tired and sore from an uncomfortable flight, chances are you are not going to perform your best once you land at your final destination. Most companies will not splurge on first class or even business class but there is another option out there—premium economy. Not only does premium economy come with a fast-track boarding pass but they offer more leg room and seats that recline a few inches farther. Premium economy seating usually offers:
- Faster boarding
- More comfortable seats
- More leg room
- Seats that recline farther
- Better food selections
- Better on flight entertainment
- Lap top power
Seatguru.com posted a brilliant chart that lists all of the airlines that offer premium economy seating as well as industry comparisons of seat type and whether or not the seat offers lap top power, which is very important to most corporate travelers.
TSA Approved Laptop Cases
The Transportation Security Administration encourages manufacturers to design laptop bags that produce a clear and unobstructed image of the laptop when going through X-ray screening. You would be surprised by how little corporate travelers take advantage of this useful design.
TSA screens the laptops in order to see if the internal electronics have been tampered with. Transportation Security Officers are trained professionals and can recognize irregularities with internal wiring. Business travelers that are frequent fliers can cut down their time in checkpoint lines by using these TSA approved carrying cases. There are three main styles on the market today.
If packed correctly, the TSA Officer should have a clear x-ray image of the lap top. Listed below are some general guidelines that the TSA suggests you consider when choosing a laptop bag.
- Your laptop bag has a designated laptop-only section that you can lay flat on the X-ray belt.
- There are no metal snaps, zippers or buckles inside, underneath or on-top of the laptop-only section.
- There are no pockets on the inside or outside of the laptop-only section.
- There is nothing in the laptop compartment other than the laptop.
- You have completely unfolded your bag so that there is nothing above or below the laptop-only section, allowing the bag to lie flat on the X-ray belt.
Utilizing Customer Service
Sooner or later it is going to happen; you have a very important business meeting to attend and your flight gets cancelled. Corporate travel experts suggest calling the airline customer service number while standing in line at the customer service desk. Chances are, if the flight is cancelled all of the other people on board will be looking to rebook their flights ASAP as well. You can double your chances of successfully getting rebooked by getting on the phone with customer service as you’re physically standing in line. You will be surprised how much time this can save you if you are in a time crunch.
